Teach Me Sanskrit At Any Cost!

During the period when Warren Hastings was the Governor General of Bengal, there was an English judge working in the session court of Kolkata by the name of William Jones. He developed a strong desire to learn Sanskrit. After an extensive search for around one year, he came across a Sanskrit scholar. The scholar was somewhat reluctant, but then he agreed to teach William Jones under a few conditions. The first condition was: Sanskrit is a divine language; anyone desiring to learn Sanskrit should promise not to eat pork and beef during the entire period of learning. The second condition was that the student had to escort the teacher in a palanquin from his residence to the place decided for learning every day. The third condition was that a separate room be constructed outside the bungalow for teaching, which should be cleaned with the water from the holy river Ganga. The fourth condition was the imbursement of a tuition fee Rs.1000/- per month. William Jones was so eager to learn Sanskrit that he agreed upon and complied with all the four conditions.

The scholar taught Sanskrit language and its grammar to William Jones. Jones learned it with such a great devotion, dedication and hard work that he acquired a good mastery over Sanskrit in a short time. In 1784, at the inaugural speech of the foundation of Archaeological Society, to everyone’s surprise, William Jones spoke in Sanskrit about the glory, virtue and wisdom of the Sanskrit language. He said that by his great fortune he had acquired such a key with which he could reveal the secret mystery of all the language of the universe. He also mentioned that Sanskrit was the key language and English, French, German, Italian and other modern Persian language had also originated fundamentally from Sanskrit. Therefore, he made a loud declaration that the people of the entire world must study such an important language, as all their languages were born out of it.
William Jones through his lecture brought to light false propagations that the European languages have originated from Hebrew, because originally the Bible was written in the Hebrew language. Due to the research work of William Jones, people of not only England but also Holland, Germany, Belgium, France, Russia, etc. turned towards the Sanskrit language. In the U.S. at Berkeley University of California, thousands of students from China, Japan, Java, Sumatra, Malaya and Indonesia, etc., have started pouring in to learn Sanskrit. Yet it is unfortunate today that this divine language, Sanskrit, has not even got the status of a second language in the country of its origin, India!

The scores directly relate to one’s level of EQ. In order to make a mark in the competitive world, it is indeed essential to get hold of a regulating device in our personality, which can set the levels of both the quotients optimally. One needs to understand that “Emotional Intelligence’ is the innate potential to feel, use, communicate, recognize, remember, learn from, manage, understand and explain emotions. Certainly, the requisite regulating devise for this purpose cannot be procured from anywhere outside. As a matter of fact, after realizing the inefficiency of drugs and other means. today the focus area of scientists in this regard has become ‘exploration of the effects of meditation on the brain’.
A study was published in the International Journal of Advanced Multidisciplinary Research and Review (ISSN 2330-1201), Volume 2, No.3, 2014. It involved 48 Russian-speaking migrants from the former Soviet Union between the ages of 19 and 54, who resided in the territory of modern Germany. Being in the initial stage of migrants. Under such circumstances, measuring their level of emotional intelligence implied that it would take into account the most acute psychological problems as well. Thus, the sample constituted of participants facing significant pressure on their minds due to their objective life circumstances. The participants were asked to meditate daily After studying the results, researchers concluded that-meditation could be a potentially effective tool for influencing the emotional intelligence as a key factor in the social-psychological adaptation of migrants”
Likewise, several research studies verify the authenticity of this fact that meditation is an effective tool for regulating ‘Emotional Intelligence’. Therefore, catch hold of the right technique of meditation and cherish a perfect balance between the brain and the heart. i.e. intelligence and emotions to set an example of a truly ‘Emotionally Intelligent’ personality!

MEDITATION

Meditation offers the perfect nutrition for the Soul-which is the hub of all the essential traits like positivity, wisdom, will-power, etc. In fact, it is the only means to nourish the Self and cherish the innumerable benefits which are rewarded when one comes in contact with his inner being. In the January 2011 issue of Psychiatry Research: Neuroimaging, Massachusetts General and the University of Massachusetts Medical School reported results of one significant clinical study. This study highlighted how meditation can transform our brain. It was an 8-week study done on 16 subjects who meditated for 30 minutes every day. MRI brain scans were done at the beginning and end of the study. Surprisingly, in the span of 56 days alone, meditation casted such an impact on the brain that each subject’s MRI displayed an increase in the gray matter in the Hippocampus. Hippocampus is the part of the brain which is responsible for learning, memory, and special orientation. Simultaneously, a reduction in the gray matter of the Amygdala was also noted. The Amygdala is identified as the fear, stress and anxiety center of the brain. Scientists were amazed to see that in less than two months, meditation can change the physical structure of the brain and the way it is wired!
In another research done by the Yale and Harvard universities, the brain scans revealed that meditation increased the thickness of the gray matter of those parts responsible for attention and for processing sensory input. The increase in the thickness was seen proportional to the duration of meditation.
Beside this, studies have revealed that meditation protects the brain’s cortex from the effects of aging. By protecting cells from premature aging, it thus results in longevity.
On the cellular level, meditation has been found to facilitate neuronal connections- which implies a better performance of the brain. Simultaneously, noticable structural changes have been seen in the regions of the brain which relate to traits like empathy, emotion-regulation, etc.
